Before every major tournament, the whole England talks about titles, and their expectations of their national team are usually disproportionately high. They believe in the title every time, even though they only won on one occasion in 1960, with legendary Bobby Charlton. But before this World Cup, the tone was actually different. The English showed a humility we rarely see from them, pointing out that many of their players entered WC in poor form. After the opening match against Iran, the talk about the players' poor form has been blown away. Now it's gold that matters - "it's coming home". On Friday night, they face the USA, and of course, go in as favorites. The USA is coming after a draw against Wales in the opener, in a game with two completely different halves. The USA controlled and dominated the first half, before handing the initiative to Wales after the break. 1-1 was ultimately a fair result. Harry Maguire came off injured against Iran, but he is expected to be ready to play here. I think that Gareth Southgate will line up with the same team as last time. The USA also had two players come off injured in their opener, Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah, and it remains to be seen whether they will be ready to start here. England looked very good against Iran, although perhaps relaxed a bit defensively toward the end. I think England will win this game, against a USA who, at least against Wales, struggled to maintain a high level for a large part of the game. In addition, England has a clearly better team. With this win, England can open a door to the knockout phase and I'm sure they will take this opportunity.
