Estoril welcome Gil Vicente to Estadio Antonio Coimbra da Mota for a round of Portuguese Primeira Liga match on Friday night. Estoril will be looking to snap out of their losing streak to stand a chance of avoiding relegation. I will be backing Estoril to get a win or a draw against Gil Vicente against all odds for the following reasons:
Firstly. Estoril started the season strongly. They recorded just two losses in their opening nine matches. They have since imploded towards the end of this campaign. Estoril have been on a six matches losing streak recently. But it has become paramount that they try and turn things around after the internal meeting they had after their last loss. It was rumored that the senior players had a separate meeting with the manager afterwards. I believe this was on how to improve on their results and show more spirit for the shirt. They are now reinvigorated and poised to put in the performance of their lives. Consider them wounded lions coming into this match; and like every wounded lion, they are dangerous. I will not write them off for this recent commitment.
Secondly. Estoril got a new manager in February after their turbulent performances this year. They let go of their former manager, Nelson Verissimo, to hire Ricardo Soares as the new manager. The new manager who was the former coach of their present opponent, Gil Vicente, have also struggled to turn things around in the short time he has managed the team so far. But we have been seeing improvements in their game play since he took over. Their last loss was due to two penalties they gave away cheaply. It was reported that they have been having extra drills during the international break on their defensive play lately to shore up their defence. I expect to see a very improved Estoril team against Gil Vicente. And they have an added advantage of having the former manager of their opponent who knows a lot about their opponent and the skills of their players, to prepare them and set up a game plan to nullify their opponent.
Judging by the mood in the Estoril's camp, I believe that they are going to turn up for this encounter with Gil Vicente, and put in a strong performance. I will be backing Estoril to come away with a result from the game. A win or a draw will suffice for Estoril.
