Manchester City host Bayern Munich at the Etihad stadium for the opening leg of the Quarterfinal matches of the UEFA Champions league. Manchester City are coming off of their 4-1 win over Southampton in the last weekend's Premier League match to remain on the heels of Arsenal for the top place finish in the league. Bayern Munich on the other hand got a 1-0 revenge win over Freiburg who had earlier on shockingly knocked them out of the DFB-Pokal tournament in the Quarterfinals by beating them 2-1. I am predicting a Manchester City win in this encounter for the following reasons:
Firstly. Bayern Munich might be on top of the Bundesliga, but they have not been at their best so far. They have lost two of their last six matches, and have struggled to keep their defence tight. One of their major weaknesses is their defence. They have failed to keep any clean sheet except for six matches in their last 16 matches. They conceded two or more goals in five of those matches. You cannot be caught napping in defence against a free-scoring team like Manchester City, who beat RB Leipzig 7-0 in their last time out in the Champions league. Manchester City will be looking to exploit the lapses in their defence to punish them massively.
Secondly. Manchester City are like a well-drilled machine. They have won their last six games in all competitions, scoring a total of 24 goals in those matches. They have also won their last nine home games. The return of Erling Halland back to fitness after his short time out with injury will be a big boost to them. He returned back in action last weekend in their game against Southampton, grabbing two goals in the match. Erling Halland have developed a special chemistry with De Bruyne, who have assisted almost half of his goals. Two of them will be the main keys in undoing the Bayern Munich.
Both teams are almost evenly matched. But Bayern Munich have been too inconsistent to be counted on, especially against a predatory team like Manchester City. I put my money on a Manchester City win.
