Celta was very lucky in the previous round against Valencia. They used a totally B team with some youngsters and other players who have not play a single minute during the season. However, they managed to score two lucky goals in 5 minutes, one of them from a penalty.
Then Valencia started to push, scored one goal, and were close to equalize during the match, making Celta struggling a bit. My sensation (and majority of Celta’s fans too) was that the coach had zero interest in the Cup with a very weak lineup. They just were lucky in the game and managed to qualify.
I’m expecting the same today, because the main target of the club is to avoid relegation in La Liga, where they are just two points above the red zone and with very poor performances.
On the other hand, Real Sociedad has some missings, but they have a very large and good squad which was built to compete in various competitions at the same time (Champions League, Spanish Cup…). During the season in La Liga the coach is already making rotations so the “reserves” already have plenty of experience in La Liga and playing at the highest level.
They are a very strong team, very difficult to beat and able to control the games perfectly. For this match several key players will be starters: Oyarzabal, Merino (who is suspended in La Liga), Brais, Le Normand…
This weekend both teams played in La Liga in a game where Real Sociedad won 0:1 showing a big authority. Celta was totally unable to create a single chance (0.26 expected goals) and although Real Sociedad didn’t play at 100%, they scored an early goal at 11’ and then managed to control the game perfectly, avoiding Celta to generate any chances.
I’m expecting the same here: full control by Real Sociedad, who surely will be also more motivated as they are totally able to win this title. Celta will use again a weak lineup and will be lacking motivation, especially knowing that even at their best they can't compete with Real Sociedad, as happened this weekend.
