The reigning champions, Bodo/Glimt, will host Tromso in the opening game of Norway's 2021 Eliteserien. Absolutely dominating the league last season, losing just one game out of thirty, and scoring 103 goals, and winning all fifteen home games, Glimt really is impenetrable right now. Tromso is back in the top division, after only one season in the second tier of Norwegian football. Gaute Helstrup's men haven't been impressive away from home last year, failing to win in eight of their fifteen visits. They have done fine in the preseason, defeating Valerenga 3-4 and stopping Glimt in a 1-1 tie, but we can all expect the hosts to get their revenge when it matters.
Kjetil Knutsen's team has won four of its last five games against Tromso. It has been two years since Glimt's last loss at home, a 2019 league game against Brann. Bodo/Glimt is coming from a 1-1 friendly against Norway's vice-champion, Molde, and are confident about continuing their magnificent winning streak in the league. Victor Boniface will be the only absentee for this duel, already being out for the whole 2021 preseason.
Tromso's fantastic last year's campaign made them sell some of their key players, and it would certainly be a challenge for Gaute Helstrup to do well against far better competition. Tromso has won just one of its last six visits last season, with most of their success coming from great home performances. Nobody came close to Glimt on this ground last year, with Glimt dominating the top-tier in every single aspect: being the league's best offensive and defensive side by far.
I expect the hosts to redeem themselves after playing 1-1 against Tromso here in the preseason, and to begin the new campaign in a perfect way, with a victory. Good luck!
