Mikkelin Palloilijat (MP) VS Käpylän Pallo (KäPa)
MP and KäPa lock horns in this Ykkösliiga battle at Mikkelin Urheilupuisto very early Friday morning Beijing time.Ykkösliiga was known as "Ykkönen" before but after some changes Ykkönen is the third-highest level of Finnish football – and Ykkösliiga is 2nd tier. The level of this league is very poor by European standards – even for a second tier. Many players are not even fulltime footballers. Football fans and us serious, profit-hungry bettors can expect a match of low quality by the Ykkösliiga standards here. However, we have yet another very lucrative betting opportunity here! MP have completely collapsed this season! Last season they played much better – but I need to highlight that they were also very lucky in terms of expected points (xPTS). MP's results last season were among the biggest surprises in Finnish football for many years! Even their coach, Juha Pasoja, was stunned by his team's performances – indicating that they were massively overperforming.. Now this fairy tale has come to an ugly end and things look very grimm for MP. They will probably be relegated after the season.. Indeed, they are the rock-bottom team in this league with a total of 10 clubs. They have a pathetic seven points to their account. Yes, they have potential for improvement, but not significant.. The bookies seemingly give their potential way too much emphasis! They have scored only five goals in 14 Ykkösliiga matches. Their offense lacks basically everything – individual skill, speed, creativity and passing accuracy at key areas – near the opponent's goal. Their offensive structure is also far from great. Their defence is not quite as bad as offense but they have still allowed the biggest number of goals in this league – 29 to be precise. The home advantage here is very small as MP have lost five games at Mikkelin Urheilupuisto in a row. There was a bit of a "boom" in the city of Mikkeli last season but this is long gone now.. I do not expect the atmosphere at the arena to be too good.. Moreover, they have not won any of their eight last home games. Before this, MP lost to Salpa 0-1 at home after yet another lame offensive performance.
After nine games without a win MP did win their last game! However, the win came on the road over PK-35, 2-1. The win was an underserved one though and probably affects the odds too much here.. Indeed, odds of around 2.50 on both teams to win are widely available on the betting market. We side with the better team and take the KäPa +0.5 goals handicap option. They have an edge over MP in all areas of the game! PK-35 had 59% ball possession and also recorded more goal attempts, shots on goal, shots off goal, corner kicks, attacks (94-47) and dangerous attacks – 78-40. On the 19th of June, MP were very lucky to get a point against JIPPO on the road. No goals were scored and MP failed to record any shots on target! JIPPO had 67% ball possession and also recorded more goal attempts (7-2) shots off goal, corner kicks, attacks (94-47) and dangerous attacks – 60-27- Before this they lost to TPS Turku twice in a row – without scoring a single goal.
KäPa are a young team, known here in Finland as a club that produces strong, individually skilled players for bigger clubs. Their season has been a disappointment – especially results-wise but they can improve in all areas of the game. I still trust their coach quite a lot. They are in 9th place with nine points but their number of xPTS is significantly higher. They are at least capable of attacking in a structured way – unlike MP.. They have scored 16 goals and have allowed 25. Their defenders make silly mistakes but MP are not expected to be able to take advantage of these mistakes.. KäPa have not won a game for a long time but have played well in their most recent two games – against tough opponents. In their last game, at home against a rich but unlucky in terms of xPTS and underperforming team TPS Turku, Käpa were big underdogs but defended very well! No goals were scored. Both teams had only one shot on target! It was a pretty balanced game overall. Before this they faced JäPS on the road and took a point through a 2-2 draw as pretty clear underdogs. JäPS did record more scoring chances but KäPA had their chances to – with a hint of luck – even win the game. They recorded a fine 10 goal attempts and 101 attacks. I need to mention that JäPS have improved from last season and are in 5th place in the standings. If KäPa's level does not drop from these games they have a very good chance of beating the lowly MP!
