I’m expecting a home win here.
Hungary is a national team who improved a lot in the recent year. They have a very difficult group in the Euro (Portugal, France and Germany) but still will fight for sure.
They are in excellent shape, unbeaten in the last 10 games played with 7 wins and 3 draws. That’s true also that some of those games were against weak sides (Cyprus, Andorra, San Marino…) but also others against good sides like Turkey or Poland.
Coach Rossi confirmed that on this match will use the same lineup as against Portugal in the EURO opening game, so I’m expecting a very competitive Hungary here. They have been playing together for a while and qualified for a major tournament, so confidence is high.
On the other hand, Ireland is a very weak side. They beat Andorra 1-4 this week, but at 52’ they were 1-0 down and playing so bad. That victory was the first one in the last 12 games played.
The mood in the team is low, it has been a difficult year and their results have been too bad, including the fact that they weren’t able to qualify to the Euro. In the World Cup 2022 qualification results have not been good either, as they started the campaign losing both matches against Serbia and Luxembourg and sitting fourth in Grupo A.
This one will be their last competitive match until September.
I’m expecting a better attitude by Hungary, who has more quality in my opinion. This will be their last test before Portugal’s game in the Euro, with the best lineup and full of confidence thanks to their recent results. Ireland will be just one more friendly, the last one before holidays, so I can’t see them at the same competitive level as Hungary here.
