In the original schedule Denmark is marked as the away team, but the match is played at Parken in Copenhagen.
After the tragedic opening game Denmark found new strenghts and fully surprised me, and Belgium by completely dominating the match until half-time.
Russia have played both of their matches so far at St Petersburg, were outplayed by Belgium but took a deserved win over poor Finland in the 2nd game. They have had some important injuries already as left fullback Tshirkov and right back Mario Fernandes both are out.
The basic class of Russia does not match Denmark’s and the big weapon - quite literally - is the towering striker Artem Dzyuba. He is the target, but he is marked and the background runs to help him must be well-timed if Russia wants to get a shot. Russia will approach this game very defensively as they would satisfy with a 0-0 draw, but that plan has its faults, it is often difficult to change gear if you end up being behind.
It is true that there is some shortage of classy scorers from the Danish side. If you followed my La Liga season you know how little I regard Braithwaite, but it also has to be taken into a context. Facing rather mediocre Russian side is easier than Atletico or Real Madrid, and Braithwaite still is fast, Sampdoria’s Damsgaard looked lively and it is no wonder he has scored already twice in his 4 games for Denmark!
The superb first half vs Belgium makes me think of a repeat of that, Denmark to start strongly with all guns, and to lead already by half-time. When in lead there is countering threat from both wings!
