Comparing youth international team results back even a year or two is complicated, as the team today is not the same it was then, but they still give you some hint of what is to be expected.
Estonia U21 have not scored a goal in their last 5 games, they have won only Latvia out of last 10 games played, and the good European teams have won them on average by 4-5 goals.
The reason for this is basically the small amount of players available in each group as the country itself is small, a fraction of the neighbouring Finland who are only a short ferry trip away, no time difference, not much cultural difference these days, the language is almost the same, even the national anthem is the same!
Finland naturally have the same problem in comparison to big countries, but this age group has exceptionally many players who are already professional, and who will make a very good career! Three of the players were in this team as young players in the previous qualifications, but those (Tihi, Oksanen, Hyvärinen) are not even the shiniest stars!
Skyttä, Suhonen, Walta, Antman, Pyyhtiä and Tauriainen are exceptional talents in the history of Finnish youth teams, they are in relatively big clubs like Toulouse, HSV, Nordsjalland, Bologna.. and the only player of Estonian side who can be compared at all to this bunch is Georgi Tunjov who is on loan in Italian lower league side Carrarese, in Serie C. The rest are basically from local league which is a lot weaker than the Finnish Premier.
The only loophole I can see here is that the Finnish team is young, some of them are only 17-18, but the amount of talent will make it up, and also the preparing matches results were not especially good, but they were against better teams and with a weakened side.
