Australia FFA Cup round of 32 between Western United and Wellington Phoenix.
A-League started some weeks ago and Western United collected 6 points after 3 games, beating surprisly Melbourne City in the last game.
In transfer market there have been many changes for them adding very good players for this league standards. St Prijovic from Ittihad, mid Khrin as free agent but long experience in Spain and Italy, def Lacroix from Sion and some veterans like gk Young from Brisbane Roar and def Topor-Stanley from Newcastle Jets.
St Burgess, st Berisha, def Hamill and gk Kurto are the most important players that left. John Aloisi is the new coach. He returned in training after 3 years.
In this game we will probably see some rotations from both sides.
Coach Aloisi confirmed there would be opportunities afforded a number of players to earn competitive minutes for the midweek clash.
“We want to win every game, and it’s not to dismiss the FFA Cup as not important, but we’ve also got other players that haven’t started games and they deserve an opportunity.”
Wellington Phoenix in other hand return to play a FFA Cup after more than 2 years.
In A-League they started with 4 points after 3 games, including last lost against WSW.
In transfer market they lost important players like st Hemed and mid Davila. Replaced with st Hooper from Kerala one of the best scorers in Australia and mid Pennington from Italian low leagues. They look weaker than last season but still solid.
Both teams will make some rotations especially Western United. Hosts don't have a deep roster so far as many of new players still out of condition and should put many youngsters.
Wellington Phoenix should take advantage of this and maybe will qualify for next phase.
