There is no question about it, the Swedish Allsvenskan is a better league than Latvian Premier. But, we have a superb team for that league playing at home vs a team who have not convinced all season in Sweden. Should Malmö be this big favourite? I think not.
Moneywise Riga are worth 12 million euros, Malmö 40, but these are just numbers. More of my thoughts below:
Riga Futbola Skola, led by Viktors Morozs since 2020, and competing in the Latvian Virsliga, knocked out Estonian Levadia in the previous qualifying round with a 2-0 aggregate. In the first leg, the reigning champions of the Estonian Meistriliiga, coached by Curro Torres, had to surrender at home in Tallinn after RFS midfielder and Serbian wizard Stefan Panic scored the winning penalty in the 54th minute. In the second leg, Panic scored again, this time assisted by Roberts Savalnieks, to make it 1-0 and seal the 2-0 aggregate victory in the 68th minute.
In their UCL warm-up, RFS thrashed the league’s bottom team Motta 4-0, the xG-data reflects that well, but the bottom teams are poor in this league.
Janis Ikaunieks scored the opener after ten minutes, assisted by Panic. Panic then gave the visitors a 2-0 lead from the penalty spot around the 30th minute.
